You're standing at Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral in Cork, on the south bank of the River Lee. Start by looking up at the three spires. Two rise above the west front, and the third soars over the middle of the church. Together they make the cathedral look much bigger than it really is. That was exactly the plan of its architect, William Burges. Cork didn't have much money, so he used a clever trick to make the building feel grander.
