Patara in Kaş

You're standing in Patara, once one of the great port cities of Lycia, on the south coast of Turkey. Where you now see reeds and marsh, there was once a busy harbour. Over the centuries the Xanthos River carried sand and silt down to the coast, the bay slowly filled up, and today the sea lies beyond a strip of sand and dunes about six hundred metres wide.
