You're standing on the Piazza dei Signori, right in the heart of Vicenza, in front of the Basilica Palladiana. Start with that long row of white marble arches, stacked two storeys high. That's the loggia, the most famous part of the building. Every round arch is flanked by a narrow rectangular opening on each side. This pattern is called a serliana, and thanks to this building we now know it as the Palladian window. Glance at the corners, too. That's where the side openings suddenly get very narrow.
