You're standing at Santa Maria della Spina, a tiny church on the bank of the Arno in Pisa. Small, yes, but take a proper look. This is one of the real gems of Gothic architecture in Italy. The whole thing is built of marble, laid in bands of different colours. On top you get a forest of little spires, pointed gables, niches and rose windows. It looks less like a building and more like a jewellery box.
