You're standing at the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, just outside Ravenna. From the outside it looks almost modest: a large brick façade with two simple uprights and a single window split into three openings. Now look at the round bell tower beside it, from the ninth century. That came later, like the porch and the building to the right of the entrance.
