You're standing at the Corinth Canal. Take a look down, if you dare. The bridges here hang around seventy metres above the water. The canal slices dead straight through the narrowest point of the isthmus, about six and a half kilometres long and barely twenty-five metres wide. It cuts the Peloponnese off from the Greek mainland.
