You're standing on a low hill near Güzelçamlı, on the northern slope of Mount Mycale, looking out over the sea. The hill is called Otomatik Tepe, which means machine-gun hill. For many years this has been identified as the Panionium, the sanctuary of the Ionian League, an alliance of twelve Greek cities along this coast.
