The story

You're standing at the Heraion of Samos, once a great sanctuary of the goddess Hera. It lies six kilometres southwest of the ancient city of Samos, today's Pythagoreion, in the low, marshy basin of the Imbrasos river, close to where it flows into the sea. According to local tradition, Hera was born right here, under a chaste tree.
