The story

You're standing at Housesteads, a Roman fort right in the middle of Hadrian's Wall. First, take a look around. The fort sits at the end of a long rocky ridge, the Whin Sill, with the Wall running along its top. All around you are open, empty hills. No wonder someone once called this the grandest station on the whole Wall.
