You're standing at the Bundeswehr Military History Museum, in Dresden's Albertstadt district. Start with the building itself, because it already tells a story. You'll see a stern, classical façade from the nineteenth century. And slicing right through the middle is a huge wedge of glass and steel, like an arrowhead breaking the old building open. That wedge is the work of architect Daniel Libeskind. The idea is simple: the open, transparent new part stands for a democratic society, the rigid old part for an authoritarian past.
