You're standing at Neuschwanstein Castle, high on a rock above the village of Hohenschwangau in Bavaria. Look at all those white towers, gables and balconies. It looks like a medieval knight's castle, but it was built in the nineteenth century. The design came from Christian Jank, a stage designer from the theatre. And you can tell: this is a castle as a stage set. Walt Disney came to see it before building his first theme park, and Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland was modelled on it.
