You're standing near the Cerne Abbas Giant, in the English county of Dorset. Look at the steep hillside across from you. There's a naked man lying in the grass, about fifty-five metres tall and more than fifty metres wide. In his right hand he swings a knotted club thirty-seven metres long. His outline is made of shallow trenches, around sixty centimetres deep, packed with crushed chalk. That's why he glows so white against the green.
