You're standing at the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, by the Place des Terreaux. It's one of the largest art museums in France. The façade dates from the seventeenth century, and the building was once an abbey, the Royal Abbey of Saint-Pierre. Aristocratic Benedictine nuns lived here. The abbess always came from the highest French nobility and received the great names of the kingdom.
