Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra

You're standing at Quinta da Regaleira, an estate just outside the historic centre of Sintra. Take a look at the palace. Pointed pinnacles, grinning gargoyles and a striking eight-sided tower: it's straight out of a fairy tale. The Italian architect Luigi Manini mixed Gothic, Renaissance and Roman forms with the Manueline style, Portugal's own richly decorated way of building.
