You're standing at Brough Castle, a ruined castle in the little village of Brough in northern England. Have a look around. This spot was chosen long before any castle stood here. It was once a Roman fort called Verterae, guarding the Stainmore Pass over the Pennines. On the north side, you look out over the River Eden.
