You're standing at the former Grand Seminary of Bayeux, a large seventeenth-century building. Since 1983 it has normally been home to one of the most famous artworks in Europe: the Bayeux Tapestry. Despite the name, it isn't really a tapestry at all. It's embroidery, coloured wool stitched onto linen, almost seventy metres long and only half a metre tall.
