Museum Kunsthalle Mannheim

You're standing at the Kunsthalle Mannheim, on Friedrichsplatz. Start with the building wrapped in bronze mesh. That's the newest wing, opened in 2018 and designed by the Hamburg architects Gerkan, Marg and Partners. Behind that metal skin is a structure of concrete, glass and steel. A plainer red sandstone extension from 1983 used to stand here, until it was torn down to make room for this bigger one.
