You're standing on top of the Colle della Guardia, a wooded hill about three hundred metres above the plain of Bologna. In front of you is the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca, a basilica you can spot on its hilltop from all over the city. Take a look at its shape. The church is built around a central point, crowned by a dome. The present building dates from 1723 and was designed by Carlo Francesco Dotti. The side tribunes were added later by his son, Giovanni Giacomo, who still followed his father's plans.
