You're standing at Belvoir Castle, right in the northern tip of Leicestershire. First, that name. Belvoir is Norman French for beautiful view. The Anglo-Saxons couldn't pronounce it and turned it into Beaver, and that's how locals still say it. Look around and the original name makes sense: the castle sits high on a steep hill above the Vale of Belvoir.
