You're standing at La Major, the cathedral of Marseille. First, just take in the size of it. It's a hundred and forty-two metres long, and the main dome rises seventy metres high. That makes it one of the largest cathedrals in France. Notice the façade too, with its bands of light and dark stone. The style is Byzantine Revival mixed with Roman influences. So think domes and round arches, not pointed Gothic spires.
