You're standing on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, in front of a sixteenth-century half-timbered house. This is where William Shakespeare is believed to have been born, in 1564, and where he spent his childhood. Take a look at the front. It's a wooden frame filled in with wattle and daub, woven sticks plastered with clay. Pretty standard for the time. But see that framed panel above and to the right of the porch roof? That's where you can actually see the wattle inside the wall. The oak came from the nearby Forest of Arden.
