Golubac Fortress in Golubac Municipality

You're standing at Golubac Fortress, on the south bank of the Danube in north-eastern Serbia. First, look at the towers climbing up the rocks. There are ten of them, most between twenty and twenty-five metres tall. Right at the top is one of the oldest, the Hat Tower, with an eight-sided base and a round spire. Its tip sits seventy metres above the river. Lightning struck it as recently as 2022.
