You're standing at Tattershall Castle, in Lincolnshire, England. Start with that huge tower in front of you. It's about forty metres tall and built entirely of red brick. That's unusual, because English castles are mostly stone, or earth and timber. There was plenty of stone nearby, but the builder chose brick anyway. It was the fashionable thing to do. Some seven hundred thousand bricks went into it, and it's been called the finest piece of medieval brickwork in England.
