You're standing at Belogradchik Fortress, on the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountains, right next to the small town of Belogradchik in northwestern Bulgaria. Locals simply call it Kaleto. The name comes from the Turkish word kale, and it just means the fortress. Have a look around. The walls seem to grow straight out of the rock. That's no accident.
