You're standing at Karlštejn Castle, high on a hill above the Berounka river, southwest of Prague. Take a look at how the castle is laid out. It sits on terraces, and each part stands a little higher than the one before. At the bottom, the burgrave's courtyard. Then the imperial palace, above it the Marian Tower, and right at the top, the Great Tower. The higher you go, the more important it gets.
