You're standing in Kuklica, a small village about eight kilometres northwest of Kratovo in North Macedonia. Have a look around, because you're in the middle of a stone town. On the right bank of the Kriva River valley, more than a hundred and twenty stone pillars rise out of the ground. Nobody built them. The whole area covers only about a third of a square kilometre, so it's easy to explore on foot.
