You're standing on Oxford Road, in front of Manchester Museum, the largest university museum in the UK. Have a look at the façade. This is Gothic Revival, and the museum sits right in the middle of the University of Manchester's neo-Gothic buildings. The architect was Alfred Waterhouse, the same man who designed the Natural History Museum in London. Let your eyes follow the frontage along towards the Whitworth Hall. Three generations of the Waterhouse family kept adding to it, and yet it still reads as one building.
