You're standing at Lorsch Abbey, about ten kilometres east of Worms. Not much of it is left, but what remains is truly special. Look at the gatehouse, the Torhalle, also called the King's Hall. It dates from the ninth century and is the oldest largely intact building from the age of the Carolingians, the empire of Charlemagne. That's why the remains have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
