You're standing at the entrance to Gombasek Cave, known in Slovak as Gombasecká jaskyňa. This is the Slovak Karst National Park, in the valley of the Slaná river, about fifteen kilometres south of Rožňava. The cave takes its name from Gombasek, a small settlement that belongs to the village of Slavec. Have a look at the hills around you. They're limestone, and over a very long time water has carved passages and hollows into the rock.
