You're standing at the Almendres Cromlech, just outside Évora, in the heart of Portugal's Alentejo. This is the largest group of arranged standing stones on the Iberian Peninsula, and one of the biggest in Europe. Have a look around. About ninety-five granite stones stand here in small clusters, spread over an area of seventy by forty metres. Together they form a double ring, one round and one oval.
