You're standing at Bezděz Castle, high above the countryside of northern Czechia. It sits on top of Velký Bezděz, a hill of phonolite, a volcanic rock, more than six hundred metres above sea level. Have a look around. It's easy to see why a king chose this spot: hard to reach, and visible for miles.
