You're standing at Chichester Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity. Start by looking up at that slender stone spire. It's so tall you can see it from the sea, the only medieval English cathedral spire you can say that about. Now look to the side. That separate tower a little way off is the bell tower, from the fifteenth century. No other medieval cathedral in England has one standing on its own like that. It was built apart because the ground here sinks, and this church's towers have suffered badly for it.
