You're standing at Sohail Castle, the Moorish fortress of Fuengirola. It sits on a hill about thirty-eight metres high, right where the Fuengirola river meets the Mediterranean. Have a look around and you'll see why someone built a castle here. From this spot you can watch the whole coastline and the river mouth at once. Back in the day, ships could even sail some four kilometres up the river. Whoever held this hill controlled the bay.
