You're standing on Säntis, at 2,502 metres the highest mountain of the Alpstein massif in northeastern Switzerland. Three cantons meet here: Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden and St. Gallen. Because the mountain stands so exposed, you can see it from far away. Even in Germany's Black Forest there are houses called Säntisblick, Säntis view. And the other way round: on a clear day you can see six countries from here. Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, France and Italy.
