You're standing on Cabo Girão, a towering sea cliff on the south coast of Madeira. You're on a Portuguese island here, but geographically it actually belongs to Africa. Go on, peek over the edge. The cliff rises more than five hundred and fifty metres above the sea, and close to six hundred at its highest point. Straight below you is the Atlantic Ocean.
