You're standing at Vøringsfossen, at the top of the Måbødalen valley, right where the flat Hardangervidda plateau suddenly drops away. Hear that roar? Look down over the barrier. The river Bjoreia plunges a total of 182 metres into the ravine here. It's probably the most famous waterfall in Norway. Keep an eye out for a smaller fall nearby too, the Tyssvikjo. It's fed by the same river, and plenty of visitors mistake it for Vøringsfossen at first. The real one is far bigger.
