You're standing on the site of the former Gurs camp, in southwestern France, not far from Pau. Take a look around. Where you now see dense greenery, there were once 382 wooden huts. The camp was about 1.4 kilometres long and 200 metres wide, with a single street running its full length. On either side lay thirteen fenced blocks, called îlots, separated from each other by wire.
