You're standing at the entrance to Brighton Palace Pier, opposite the southern end of Old Steine, right where Marine Parade and Grand Junction Road meet along the seafront. Look how far it stretches out to sea. It's 525 metres long, with 85 miles of planking underfoot. The paint job never really ends: repainting it takes three months every single year. Come back after dark and you'll see it lit by 67,000 bulbs.
