You're standing at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Évreux, the bishop's church of this Norman town. Start with the west front and its two towers. Most of it dates from the late sixteenth century. The north tower is the bell tower. Notice anything about the south tower? It used to carry an eight-sided wooden belfry. That was lost in a fire in June 1940 and never rebuilt.
