You're standing among the remains of Aizanoi, an ancient Greek city right next to the village of Çavdarhisar. You're about a thousand metres up here, and the Penkalas river runs straight through the old town. Start with the hill and the Temple of Zeus. This was the city's main sanctuary, and it's a remarkably well-preserved Roman-era temple. It was dedicated under Emperor Domitian, around the year 92 or 94. It had eight columns at each end and fifteen along the sides, on a footprint of thirty-five by fifty-three metres. An earthquake in 1970 damaged it, and it has since been restored.
