You're standing at Beaumaris Castle, on the island of Anglesey in Wales. What you're looking at is a castle that was never finished. King Edward I had it built as part of his conquest of north Wales. The man in charge was Master James of St George, and work began in the summer of 1295. The name comes from Norman French and means fair marsh.
