You're standing at the Château de Brest, the oldest monument in town. It sits on a rocky point where the river Penfeld flows into the roadstead of Brest, a huge natural bay. Look across the river. That's the Tour Tanguy, and together with this castle it guarded the mouth of the Penfeld for centuries.
