You're standing at Pannonhalma Archabbey, high on a 282-metre hill in Hungary. Look up at the classicist tower. It was only added in 1832, but the monastery is much older. Prince Géza founded it in 996, as the first Benedictine monastery in Hungary. Saint Martin of Tours is believed to have been born at the foot of this hill, and the monastery was built in his honour. After Monte Cassino in Italy, this is the second largest territorial abbey in the world.
