You're standing at Kyburg Castle, high on a steep hill above the Töss valley, a few kilometres south-east of Winterthur. This is one of the largest medieval castles left in Switzerland. Look at the gate in the north-east corner. That's the way in. The gatehouse was rebuilt in the late sixteenth century and decorated with coats of arms. Behind it, a narrow defensive passage leads to the inner gate, which is guarded by the massive tower, the bergfried.
