Archaeological site Roman Verulamium in St Albans

You're standing in Verulamium Park, on the edge of St Albans. Beneath this grass lies an entire Roman town. Verulamium was one of the most important towns in Roman Britain, about a day's walk from London. Look around at those low, rugged stretches of wall. They're pieces of the old city wall, which once ringed the whole town, except for the side where the River Ver did the job instead.
