You're standing at the Olive Tree of Vouves, in the little village of Ano Vouves in western Crete, in the Chania region. Take a good look at that trunk. It's twisted, furrowed and split, more like a chunk of rock than a tree. It measures twelve and a half metres around and more than four and a half metres across. This is probably one of the oldest olive trees in the world.
