You're standing at Scarborough Castle, high on a rocky headland above the North Sea. On three sides, the cliffs drop about 91 metres straight down. The only way an enemy could approach was from the land side, and that's exactly where you are now, by the gate. Look up at the keep, the square tower from the twelfth century. It still rises around 26 metres. But notice anything missing? A whole wall is gone. The west side was blasted away during the English Civil War.
