You're standing at Maria Laach Abbey, on the southwestern shore of the Laacher See in Germany's Eifel region. The name tells you exactly where you are. Laach comes from an old word for lake, going back to the Latin lacus. So this is really the Lake Abbey. The name Maria was only added around 1862.
