You're standing at the Rhine Falls, the waterfall on the Rhine between Schaffhausen and Zurich. Just listen for a moment. That roar is the most powerful waterfall in Europe. It isn't very tall, around twenty-three metres, but it's a hundred and fifty metres wide. In summer, an average of six hundred cubic metres of water pours over every second. In winter it's a lot less.
