Ljubostinja Monastery in Trstenik Municipality

You're standing at Ljubostinja Monastery, in a green valley among the hills of the Gledić Mountains, a few kilometres north of Trstenik. Legend says this is where young Milica first laid eyes on Prince Lazar, and they fell in love on the spot. That may be where the name comes from: the place of love. At the end of 1388, just before the Battle of Kosovo, she started building a monastery here. It became Serbia's first convent, a home for the widows of fallen noblemen.
